Culture is who we are. It is a way of life.

With the pressures of modern life building up, people are more and more inclined to forgetting about their traditional ways of life. We focus on work, running our businesses, religion, modern education and forget to teach our children about practices of our ancestors because we have been modernized.

It would be a shame to watch our cultures die. It would be a shame to live in an only westernized world. Culture and tradition especially to the African community inform our values and practices. In today's modern world, we have the liberty and freedom to pick and choose which practices we can continue with and those to drop. But we sill need to abide by the norms in our culture like respect for our elders, respect for one another, environmental conservation and preservation, continuous learning, communing regularly with one another, sharing healthy meals, celebrating rites of passages and being grateful.

Another thing to embrace is accessorizing with traditional jewelry, African themed jewelry, dressing up in African themed attires and also having African themed interior design items in our houses, workspaces, businesses and even religious spaces. Doing this subconsciously reminds us of our heritage and tells other people who we are without them even asking. And quite frankly, Africa looks good as an accessory, even though it is more than that.

In the era of fast foods and cholesterol loaded meals, going back to our traditional meals can save us. Chronic illnesses have risen, younger people too are taking pills for the rest of their lives because they have accepted a foreign food culture. Maybe we should be eating what our ancestors ate and base any other meals on the simple ingredients from our farms.

Culture is more than we think. IT is deep and it actually gives one a sense of identity. Culture is he way to grow Africa, make it more unique and self identifying. Welcome to TRuBen Cultural Centre for Arts, Language and Societal Development. We aim to preserve the Nandi culture and celebrate it.
